Yes. Ladies and gentlemen, I am fine. Popo, the volcano DID explode. NO, we didnt feel or hear the crazy sounds and earth shaking as everyone else describes because as missionaries, we respect and love our sleeping time and NOTHING can disturb us. BUT all is well and all we do is wear masks all day everyday now because its raining ash. Hence... the title (:
PONDERIZING SCRIPTURES: John 14:12, 1 Corinthians 2:16, Hebrews 12:7-9, Isaiah 55:8-9, OMni 1:26, 2 Nephi 33:15, 2 Kings 6:16-17, 2 Kings 18:5-7, 36, 2 Kings 19:1, 2 Kings 20:3,5, 2 Kings 23:3,25, D&C 20:37, Matt 5:41 (President´s favorite)
TUESDAY: HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO HERMANA GONZALES. Got up bright and early to make number shaped pancakes for her 20th birthday! Then, got dumped by our investigator Maritza... but ESTA BIEN. Contacted a member to where to our surprise her son´s girlfriend whos not mormon has moved in and wants to get married and baptized in less than three weeks... we got work to do. Had an incredible opportunity in a Relief Society activity to watch Meet the Mormons with many non members and was asked to bear my testimony at the end... where I broke in tears overcome by the love that I felt for the sisters there and for this gospel. ALSO ... because the members through Hermana Gonzales a surprise birthday party where her face was stuffed in a cake and we painted each others faces in a fun game. And we ate SO much cake but the more cake, the more we knew we were loved. (:
WEDNESDAY: District meeting was sincerely unforgettable as our district leader had some of us testify why we are here. VERY spiritual moment that I will never forget. In lunch, found out that Hermana Hilda is related to Elder Ramirez in a crazy small world. WOW insane. Drove for a half hour all the way to little Cuapan to meet our golden family who is still firm for being baptized at the end of this month... but the whole drive, our members baby was crying in the back seat and Hermana Gonzales couldn`t do anything... so sad but hilarious. Helped a member who was death ridden sick receive a blessing and then animated a future missionary, Sandy, to know she needs to serve. After making the decision to serve a mission, there is a time of trial of doubting if you feel ready... and I am so grateful for the opportunity to be with her during that time.
THURSDAY: It has become a really stressful and busy week as we`ve realized we have 4 investigators who in less than 3 weeks have a desire to be baptized. BUT ITS POSSIBLE WITH THE LORD. The members are helping more that I thought was even possible with our investigators to the point that Hermana Vanessa GAVE us a whole bag of her clothes when she doesnt even have that much herself but is willing to give it to this family who literally has nothing. An act of love that truly touched me as well. Our mission leader is pushing and cheering us on to get this marvelous work done.
FRIDAY: Drove everywhere crazily trying to find cost for weddings and where our family can get married the most cheap. Man, weddings. Expensive. Not looking forward to paying for my own. But thanks to even more members helping us pull some strings with the government, we found a way for them to be married! MIRACLES. Now just waiting for our investigators to actually accept getting married together. Praying for them to make the right decision! I taught choir with the ward choir director, and yes Sister Sommer, I used your vocal exercises and they are going to continue using them.
SATURDAY: ASCENSION CALLED US IN THE MORNING WITH THE NEWS THAT SHE SAID YES!!! YAYYY. I get to be a bridesmaid! Twice! But sincerely that family has no money, asked us if we could pay for their way back home after traveling to the town center. But I am SO glad that he has found this gospel because I KNOW that this gospel, if we keep the commandments, will bring SO many blessings to us. They can get back on their feet and begin a new life through the Lord Jesus Christ and through this gospel and this church. Got Michelle and the Cuapan family thanks to members to come to a baptism in another ward. And afterwards, the kids were playing with the elders and the parents just gleamed with love for them. I could not help but smile. This change that the gospel brings to people is absolutely incredible.
SUNDAY: Our mission leader came up to us after church and told us that the members have all pitched to pay for the entire wedding of Ascension and Antonia. As a companionship, at first we began doubting that it was possible for them to be baptized by the end of the month, but the faith and perseverance of the members is an answer to prayers that this family NEEDS to be baptized. The members love them and they are slowly progressing to be converted to the Lord. Found 2 new investigators who are a brand new couple who live in a little shack on the side of the street. 18 and 15 and she`s pregnant. BUT they are willing to learn about the plan that God has for them and their new child that is soon to come into this world. The Lord puts people in our paths who sincerely are more than ready to hear our message. FINALLY after two months, we found our three recent converts all together at the same time, sat them all down, and taught them the plan of salvation. It was a miracle and they pretty much taught us the lesson more than we taught them. AND to end the day, a member made me what has become my favorite food/dessert now. Bananas, cream, and sugar just mixed together. THAT will make me a happy camper for the rest of my life. Blessings (:
OKAY, another week gone, and another MONTH gone as well. This mission is FLYING. It´s insane and it scares me. I want to stay here forever. My family is here and I literally do not remember my life, my friends, or who I was before this mission. I am just going to start telling people I was born here. This mission. This gospel. Just TRANSFORMS you. And I hope that I never go back.
The best 18 months. EVER.
